| on 2010/8/13 11:00:00 (110 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com) --- On Tuesday, August 24, Shenita Williams, the aunt of Paris Whitehead Hamilton, is coming back to her home after weeks of substantial renovations completed by Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay (RTTB), in partnership with the City of St. Petersburg, members of the Tampa Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), and the Home Depot Foundation. The work included making the house more energy efficient, safer and healthier. Ms. Williams never came back to her home after April 2009, when her niece Paris was killed in a drive-by shooting. It took several months of counseling, support and encouragement from friends and family for her to come back to claim her home.
This project is the last of several homes renovated in the Bartlett Park Neighborhood by RTTB in a special partnership with the City of St. Petersburg and several local non-profit organizations on Rebuilding Day in April 2010. Several state and local officials, media, and corporations joined Rebuilding Together leaders and over 600 volunteers for this project. A group of volunteers will complete all interior and exterior painting and landscaping between Thursday, August 19 and Friday, August 20.

Philanthropy and Volunteer : 24 Hours for Haiti - Fundraiser and New World Record
|
| on 2010/7/27 9:30:00 (103 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com) --- 24 Hours for Haiti (24hoursforhaiti.com) is the brain child of life-long motorcycle enthusiast, Perry Prichard. Prichard has been traveling to Haiti on mission trips for some time now and from the first visit, as he would put it, "touches your heart in a special way", and with the recent earthquake that affected so many Prichard felt that he needed to do something extra, something to raise money to send to his cause in Haiti as an effort to help with the disaster that devastated the country.
Prichard states, "When I sat down to think of what I could do to raise money for Haiti, the first thoughts through my head were not to sell pizzas, Girl Guides cookies or anything like that; it was about, I love to ride motorcycles and how can I turn that passion into raising money?" A friend said "...you should ride your motorcycle for as many laps as you can and find people to pledge per lap." I thought, that is a great idea." So Perry and his wife Melissa set out to figure out how to accomplish such a feat of strength and endurance. Following a little research, the necessary forms were submitted to Guinness to see if this could qualify. Rather than just waiting idly while the request was being processed, Prichard proactively began a rigorous training regime to prepare himself for the ride.

(SkyNewswire.com) --- GreenProductsandGifts.com features a huge selection of Eco Friendly products including gifts, garden, decor, furniture and jewelry all created from recycled materials. Buying products made from recycled materials, such as recycled glass closes the recycling loop and reduces the amount of items that end up in landfills.
Sustainability means creating a better quality of life for all people now as well as for generations to come. One of the easiest ways is by recycling glass. Glass is made from natural materials like sand and has a low rate of chemical reaction with the contents of the container, which makes it a safe material to be reused. Glass can be recycled forever without losing its purity or strength as the major ingredient in new glass containers. A glass container can go from your recycling bin to a store shelf in as little as 30 days. Jennifer Sterling, co-owner of GreenProductsandGifts.com states, “Painted Wine Glasses make for a fun Bridesmaid gift, Birthday gift, Christmas gift or just a fun gift to celebrate friendship. These fun booby wine glasses are the perfect green gift for just about anyone!” The colorful toasting glass is made of recycled glass by Libbey and measures approximately 9 inches tall that can hold 20 ounces of your favorite beverage.

Philanthropy and Volunteer : Israel's Greatest Musicians Raise Their Voices For "Pioneers For a Cure"
|
| on 2010/6/29 7:20:00 (149 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com) --- Pioneers For a Cure (www.pioneersforacure .org) announced the second phase of its international Pioneer Song project in support of pioneering efforts to defeat cancer, with interpretations of songs from Israel's pioneer period by Israel's top contemporary recording artists. The songs will be available for download on the relaunched Pioneers for a Cure website in July, and 100% of the revenue from the song downloads will go to benefit cancer organizations chosen by the artists. The goal of Pioneers For a Cure is to raise money for cancer research and treatment. To date, more than 20 cancer organizations have thus far received proceeds from song downloads and donations, coming through the website from donors all over the world. Israeli Stars Record Their Country's First Songs
While the first phase of Pioneers for a Cure focused on Jewish musicians based in New York recording newly rediscovered gems, the second phase features Israeli musicians living in Israel, singing well known music of their nation's pioneers and chosen by the musicians themselves. "These were songs they heard as children," says the project's producer (and saxophonist and rabbi) Greg Wall. "Ilanit, an Israeli musical legend who was named the top female singer every year from 1971 to 1977, is now a grandmother. She recorded 'Numi, Numi' for her grandchildren. It's a lullaby that her grandmother sang to her. The full circle from generation to generation. That is what a country's pioneer songs can do." Fifteen musicians recorded songs for the project. Some of the artists are only known in Israel, while others are well known abroad. Wall selected them based on those he already knew and on the recommendations of other musicians and producers.
