Immigration : Michael Youssef Speaks Out on Illegal Immigration
|
| on 2010/5/20 21:10:00 (166 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)--- Michael Youssef, Founder and President of Leading The Way, became an American citizen in 1984, after coming to the United States from an oppressive socialist regime. His perspective on today’s hotly debated subject of illegal immigration is worth considering.
“I am aware of the fact that many are divided on the issue of illegal immigration, and I do not want to add to the confusion,” stated Michael Youssef, Ph.D. “However, I hope and trust that I can help with some clarifications on this issue.” “Most of the thinking from today’s secular media is being done between the noses and the chins, hence the confusion,” add Dr. Youssef. “There are also some liberal politicians from both parties using a characteristic of God to push their misguided policy.” To read the complete article, visit www.michaelyoussef.com

Immigration : Texas Law Regarding Immigrants and Driver's Licenses to Receive Test in Court
|
| on 2009/9/19 15:30:00 (436 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)--- Several new measures have been proposed in Texas over the past year in attempts to control the problems associated with illegal immigration. From Texas border security to increased round-ups by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to serious legal consequences for employers who hire undocumented workers, our Lone Star State of Texas is feeling the pressure that comes with its border location to take the initiative in passing sound immigration law. However, one of its controversial efforts is now being met with a lawsuit in state district court.
Starting last fall, the Texas Department of Public Safety began to require proof of legal immigration status before issuing a driver's license. Not only is authorization to be in the United States now required, but the applicant must prove that he or she will have this status for at least the next six months. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) now claim that these stricter regulations are denying licenses to people who are perfectly qualified applicants.
According to news reports, a Mexican businessperson who lives in Houston named Enrique Lara has become the face of the legal protest. Since his business visa is scheduled to expire at the end of February, Mr. Lara was denied a new license when he went to his local DPS office to submit a change of address. Mr. Lara has lived in Houston for five years. His immigration attorney has never had a problem extending his visa in the past and had no reason to believe that future roadblocks would occur.

Immigration : The Indian Embassy in London Faces Delays in Visa Processing Due to Protests
|
| on 2009/5/5 0:10:00 (655 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)--- Early on Monday workers went on strike in several departments, including the visa processing departments. The reason for the strike is currently unknown, but it is believed to be linked to the protest that took place out side the Embassy later.
As per the High Commission of India, London applicants are hereby notified to expect delays over the next few days in the processing of their visa applications due to demonstrations and blockages around the High Commission of India, London by crowds protesting about the situation concerning the Sri Lankan Tamils in Sri Lanka. That is the official statement release on the High Commission website.
The demonstration began at about 8:15 (local time) with a crowd of 150 people protesting the current civil war in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Tamil protesters smashed windows of the Indian High Commission and forced their way inside the building when a door was opened to allow a staff member in. The High Commission is reported to have sought adequate protection from the British Government. Five Sri Lankan Tamils were arrested by British Police forces. No one in the High Commission was injured.

Immigration : What Would We Do if All the Illegal Immigrants Left? by: Donna Poisl
|
| on 2009/3/29 4:50:00 (460 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)--- Could we afford to live here if they all left?
There are several proposals for immigration reform being discussed now. They say they will solve the problem of so many illegal immigrants coming to and staying in this country. Some are offering amnesty, others guest worker cards, others temporary cards.
Some people are talking about rounding them up and sending them all back to where ever they came from.
How would we do that? First, how would we find all of them? If we were able to find them, who would do the processing and paperwork to organize the deportation? Would we hire planes and buses and buy them tickets to go home? It sounds like it would be impossible and also impossibly expensive to do this for the millions who are here, some for many years.
If the roads were filled with buses and the skies with planes taking all these people out of this country, what would happen then? Who would do the work they were doing here? There would be a huge shortage of workers for farming, construction, landscaping, restaurants and tourism. Last season, growers could not get enough workers to harvest their crops and this year is worse. Prices of everything would rise dramatically and some produce would not be available at all, because it would be rotting in the fields.

|
| on 2009/2/15 10:30:00 (545 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)--- Debutant author A. A. Alvarez makes the headlines with a provocative work where he challenges common immigration stereotypes with a passionate and entertaining writing style. With a story that shows what happens behind the scenes, the young Venezuelan writer provides an insider's perspective about the way plenty of today's young immigrants live their lives and why well-established Latin Americans also pursue their dreams abroad.
Chronicles of a Nomad: Memoirs of an Immigrant is a first-person adventure narrated by Carlos Rodriguez, an intrepid young immigrant who embarked in a journey of self-discovery and reflection by confiding his secrets to the reader. Although he spends his childhood in abundance, at age fifteen, the worsening state of his troubled nation leads him to Denver, Colorado, where he ends up overstaying the time allowed on his tourist visa. Not many years later, he is left with no choice but to immigrate to Greece, where the ghosts of his past challenge his future and where his search for home sweet home leads him farther away from his hometown, Caracas, Venezuela.

Immigration : The Care Industry Still Need Foreign Workers
|
| on 2008/8/25 4:50:00 (731 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)---Special Report By Charles Kelly Immigration Adviser and Co Author of How 2 Come to the UK to Live Work Study or Visit.
The Care Industry Still Needs Foreign Workers
As Home Secretary John Reid ponders over whether or not to admit thousands of Romanian and Bulgarian workers next year, we ask what the Government is doing to help the private care sector to solve continuing staff shortages.
Last week, in a reaction to mounting public anxiety over immigration, Mr Reid has effectively called for official limits on the numbers coming into Britain. He hinted that a new body could be set up to advise the government on "optimum levels of immigration" consistent with the country's economic needs and "social stability".
This is a major shift in policy by a government which previously welcomed immigration and talked of the economic benefits migrants bring to Britain.

Immigration : The Wild West of Myth and Reality
|
| on 2008/6/20 9:30:00 (537 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)-- The Wild West – the very expression conjures up images of stagecoaches and bat-wing door saloons, and of men facing each other in a dusty, tumble weed strewn street, ready to draw their guns and shoot it out. But just how wild was the Wild West?
The European settlement of North America is unique in history. With the possible exception of England’s settlement of Australia, never before has there been such a large migration of people into such a large and sparsely populated area of land. What we think of as the Wild West period is only the final stage of this centuries-long process. Various factors caused this westward expansion to speed up in the latter part of the 19th century, contributing to the West’s lawless reputation.
