(SkyNewswire.com) --- An over-whelming majority of respondents surveyed do not trust bankers to have their best interests in mind, according to a new Housing Predictor opinion poll. The finding was the strongest evidence yet that the foreclosure epidemic and the financial crisis harming the U.S. economy are being blamed on the financial industry.
A huge 97% of respondents to the online poll said they do not trust bankers to have their best interests in mind when conducting business. The Mortgage Bankers Association says 94% of all mortgages being applied for these days are fixed rate mortgages, which assure mortgage holders of a pre-determined mortgage payment that cannot be increased like adjustable rate mortgages. Real Estate, Home & Garden : New Wave of Foreclosures Coming in 2010
|
| on 2010/8/11 19:00:00 (112 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com) --- As 2010 began, there were some signs of stabilization in the housing market according to the CEO of Freddie Mac, Charles Haldeman, Jr. Federal tax credits, low prices and low mortgage rates were all expected to fuel the recovery. Still, Haldeman cautioned at the time, the recovery was fragile and there was the potential for a large wave of foreclosures. Unfortunately, Haldeman appeared to be right.
RealtyTrac, a leading foreclosure listing service, released its Midyear 2010 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report earlier this month. According to the report, over 1.65 million properties have received a foreclosure notice so far this year. Though this number is down from the previous six months, it is up 8 percent over the same time period in 2009.

Real Estate, Home & Garden : Homeowners Benefit During Economic Slow Down with Home Improvements
|
| on 2010/8/4 9:30:00 (92 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com) --- Consumer confidence is close to the lowest it’s been since the late 80’s. Home prices are dropping, foreclosures are rising, and fuel costs are high. While the news can be depressing, the impact can benefit homeowners planning home improvements. The housing slump is affecting home remodeling contractors and the home improvement stores that supply the construction materials.
Many home improvement and lumber merchants are starting campaigns to mark down prices. “This is providing the homeowner with more bargaining power and less expensive home improvement projects,” said Debra, owner of Westmoreland Contractor Referral Service. The housing slump is introducing new competition into the remodeling arena. Smaller homebuilders are actually diversifying their businesses to survive the downturn. Construction companies are looking into every aspect of their business and making adjustments. The result for the homeowner is lower material costs and reduced overhead cost, which results in an overall reduction in the cost of home repairs and remodeling.

Real Estate, Home & Garden : E-commerce Meets Brick-and-Mortar Business: Modani Modern Furniture Online and Opening its Third Location in Trendy Los Angeles on Sunset Blvd
|
| on 2010/8/3 9:30:00 (92 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com) --- Modani Furniture is rapidly becoming a common name for ultra modern and chic décor. The concept of combining e-commerce with brick-and-mortar business, where designer styles are offered at an affordable price via the internet and showroom is taking over the web and trendiest cities. What started as a single website has led to sky rocketing sales, the opening of three new showrooms and new collections in the past year. Shoppers, real-estate tycoons, athletes and mainstream celebrities are taking a liking to Modani modern furniture and decorating their interiors across the nation. The next stop: Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.
In July 2007, right in the midst of the real-estate crash and the height of e-commerce, three French entrepreneurs embarked on a mission to contend with the modern furniture industry by offering chic and trendy designer furniture for a price three times lower than average designer store prices. One small showroom in Miami, an online store and the latest furniture trends revived a new concept in the modern furniture where consumers would not be bogged down by designer costs and able to afford quality furniture. Modani, since then, has grown rapidly on this notion and resulted in an average of over a 100% increase in sales annually.
