It is with his lover that Louie has his first sexual experience. Gay & Lesbian Interest : Gay Couples Can't Marry in Texas, But Can They Divorce There?
|
| on 2010/7/12 8:00:00 (131 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com) --- Five states and the District of Columbia currently permit homosexual marriage. These jurisdictions logically also grant divorces to homosexual couples who are legally married. However, the legal status of married same-sex couples is not recognized in many other states that define marriage as a union existing solely between a man and a woman.
Texas, one of the states that define marriage in this way, is currently grappling with the reality that some homosexual couples legally married in Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, Iowa, New Hampshire or Washington, D.C., are moving to Texas and may seek to divorce there. Two lower courts have ruled that these couples may obtain divorces in Texas because of its constitutional obligations of equal protection under the law, and full-faith-and-credit recognition of other states' legal acts. However, the Texas Attorney General is attempting to halt the divorces, insisting that homosexual marriages legally recognized in other states should be voided under Texas law.

Gay & Lesbian Interest : Transgender men go topless at Delaware beach
|
| on 2010/6/4 7:40:00 (144 reads) |
(AP) --- Rehoboth Beach in Delaware isn't a topless beach — but a few transgender men caused a stir by treating it like one. Police say passers-by complained after the men removed their tops and revealed their surgically enhanced breasts over Memorial Day weekend. A lifeguard asked them to put their tops back on. The men initially refused, but covered up before police arrived.
Even if they hadn't, though, Police Chief Keith Banks notes the men were doing nothing illegal. Since they have male genitalia, they can't be charged with indecent exposure for showing their breasts. Banks says there's no need for a specific law to address the issue.

Gay & Lesbian Interest : To Ask or Not to Ask: Foreign Military Allies to Discuss Gay Service
|
| on 2010/5/18 21:30:00 (122 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)--- While the U.S. Congress considers repealing the ban on lesbians and gays in the military, a policy known as ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’, twenty-five of our nation’s allies already allow open gay military service. On Wednesday, May 19, during a public forum at the Brookings Institution, military commanders and scholars from Australia, Canada, Israel, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom will discuss their experiences with the service of gays in their militaries. Co-sponsored by the Palm Center, Lessons Learned from the Service of Gays and Lesbians in Allied Militaries will evaluate for media, policymakers and military leaders the effects of gay military service on policy, unit cohesion, military readiness and morale.
“The U.S. has always applied the lessons of our military allies, and it should be no different in this matter,” said Peter Singer, Director of Brookings Institution's 21st Century Defense Initiative. “This conference is a tremendous opportunity for Congressional and DoD policy makers to review our allies’ experiences and develop smart solutions for how to best mitigate any impacts and manage implementation should ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ be over turned. In short, this conference is part of doing it 'smart, and not stupid,' as Secretary Gates has emphasized.”

EastEnders star John Partridge, who plays Christian Clarke, has revealed that he plans to tie the knot with Jon Tsouras. He said: “My lovely Jon’s Canadian and it’s all about when his family can come over, which might be this autumn. We’ve been together for seven years and it’s about time I made an honest man of him.
“There might be some Irish dancing, though. We’ve both got Irish roots, so there could be a bit of the old Riverdance!” In recent months, Christian’s steamy relationship with Syed Masood, played by Marc Elliot, has dominated the BBC1 soap’s storyline. It reached a climax this week when Syed’s wife finally found out the whole truth, his father disowned him and Syed disappeared, causing anguish for his family and Christian. When Christian and Sayed were about to have their first onscreen kiss there was criticism from the Muslim community. But the kiss went ahead. Mother devastated
The relationship between Sayed and Christian has devastated Sayed’s mother Zainab Masood, played by Nina Wadia, who has just starred in The Eleventh Hour, the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who, which aired a week and a half ago in the United States, Canada and Australia, and two weeks before that in the UK. Wadia has said of her Who role: “It was brilliant to be let out [of EastEnders] for a couple of days to do something else and it was great working with Matt Smith [the eleventh Doctor]

Gay & Lesbian Interest : Glee star Colfer talks of emotion of gay role
|
| on 2010/5/4 19:40:00 (153 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)--- Glee star Chris Colfer has revealed that he is going through one of the most meaningful times in his life, thanks to his role in the knockout American series. “I’ve had so many young boys and girls write to me and explain their situation where they live in environments that don’t accept who they are,” he said. Then, fighting back tears, he continued: “Just knowing that . . . being on a television show that is awarded and praised so much, but having material like that that affects so many people in such a sensitive and emotional way is the greatest award any of us could have.”
Colfer was speaking to fans at an event – the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Presents an Evening with Glee – held this week at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood, California. In the popular musical drama, Colfer plays cute Kurt Hummel, a gay teen who is bullied at school and secretly in love with a fellow student, the football-playing hunk Finn (Cory Montieth). The most recent episode, “Home” – which aired in the US this week, and will be broadcast in the UK next week – deals with Kurt’s unrequited love for Finn and the inner struggle he’s having as to whether his dad, Burt (Mike O’Malley), is really accepting of him. “It’s very emotional – probably the most emotional [yet] for Kurt,” Colfer said in an interview with E! Online. “Kurt is so strong. He’s more concerned with being OK in his dad’s eyes than with anyone else. And that relationship definitely gets stronger. Some of the best stuff is coming up for it.”
Colfer believes that it’s the offscreen relationship that’s developed between him and O’Malley that’s made their onscreen relationship so convincing. “It’s amazing how much we just connected just right off the bat,” he told E! Online. “And really, we’ve only actually been around each other for seven calendar days, so it’s pretty cool that we can have that much chemistry onscreen. Burt is just a cool dad. He’s just a great dad. Probably the best on TV. [The onscreen bond] just gets stronger and stronger.”

Gay & Lesbian Interest : Student Sent Home for 'I Heart Lady Gay Gay' T-Shirt
|
| on 2010/4/8 8:10:00 (184 reads) |
(SkyNewswire.com)--- Another free speech battle has begun in White House, Tennessee, after Cole Goforth, a 15-year-old student at Greenbrier High School, was sent home for wearing a t-shirt that said "I 'heart' Lady Gay Gay" which, of course, refers to Lady Gaga.
Goforth 6 News reports: "Administrators told him to go home and change because the shirt 'was going to cause disruption in the school,' Goforth said. His mother said the school is violating her son's free speech rights. Administrators have not sent home students who wear religious shirts and those bearing the rebel flag, she said. Julie Gordon said her son has worn shirts that say 'gay' to school in the past with no problems and feels the conflict is less about the shirt and more about her son's look and orientation. 'I think they are singling him out, I really do, and they've made statements that if he wore this in California, he'd fit in just fine,' she said. The Robertson County School Board dress code does not specifically ban shirts with the word 'gay.' But it does state that each principal can interpret the dress code and take action if a student's dress causes a disruption."
